Membership Types

Full members are:

  • Engaged in the work of energy geoscience or related research.
  • A graduate of an institution of University standing where they have studied their major in geology or related earth science. 
  • Residing anywhere in the world and interested in Canadian geology. 

                          

Did you know? Full members with an active status are eligible to vote and hold office in the Society. As a full member, you can join our board of directors and volunteer with any of our initiatives.  

Associate members are:

  • NOT eligible for a Full membership but interested in geology or related sciences or Petroleum exploration.
  • Residing anywhere in the world and interested in Canadian geology. 

                          

Did you know? Associate members shall enjoy all privileges of Full membership except that they shall neither vote nor hold office in the Society. However, you can still volunteer on any of the CSPG standing committees.;

The CSPG recognizes its loyal members by offering this special tier of membership. It is through our members’ loyalty and consistent support that we can sustain our service levels and are able to update our offerings.

Emeritus members are:

  • Active Full member in good standing with the CSPG for 30 consecutive years.
  • No longer earning employment income from within the Energy Geosciences.

Did you know? Emeritus members shall enjoy all privileges of Full membership. They can vote and hold office in the Society. As an Emeritus member, you can join our board of directors and volunteer with any of our initiatives.;

As a recent graduate, you need your CSPG membership more than ever. It is through the CSPG that you can build connections that can help you find career opportunities. You can also become eligible for various CSPG grants and higher education scholarships. Recent Graduate membership status is valid for two years after which you would become a Full member.

Recent Graduate members are:

  • Engaged in the work of geology or petroleum exploration or related research.
  • A graduate of an institution of University standing within the last two years, in which institution he/she has done his/her major work in geology or related earth science.
  • Residing in Canada or the USA.

                          

Did you know? Active Recent Graduate members are eligible to vote and to hold office in the Society? Find out how you can volunteer on any of the CSPG standing committees.;

The CSPG recognizes the importance of introducing and engaging future geoscience students to the workforce early on in their careers. The technical skills and tacit knowledge they can gain by engaging in CSPG activities, designed to enhance their knowledge, are unmatched.

 
Student members are:

  • Students enrolled in a university or college across Canada as an undergraduate or graduate student of a geoscience department.
  • Residing in Canada.

                          

Did you know? Student members shall neither vote nor hold office in the Society, nor do they have access to the Membership Directory. However, you can meet and engage with other members at any of our events.;

    Membership Policies:

  1. Members who do not renew their dues by their expiry date will become non-members.
  2.  Non-members will still have access to login to the website to pay their dues (must click Join Now under Member Account).
  3.  When a membership has lapsed within one year of the expiry date there is no penalty and the new membership year commences on the date of payment. 
  4.  When a membership has lapsed for more than one year, the member has two options:
    a) Pay for the missed year(s) to maintain the member's original join date (advantageous to be considered Emeritus status when 30 years of consecutive membership has been achieved).

    b) Do not pay for missed year(s) and the join date and new membership year commences on the date of payment. Member will lose the the ability to count all previous  membership years towards Emeritus status.
  5.  All members must abide by the CEGA Code of Conduct.
